Route 76 is an old number for North Street in Windsor Locks, running 2.11 miles from Route 75 to Route 159. It parallels modern-day Route 140, as well as another short, old route: Route 78.

In 1951, Route 76 became SR 524: still state-maintained, but no longer signed. In 1962, SR 524 was turned over to the town.
